THEFT OF BICYCLES.
ACCUSED GIVEN PROBATION. NAME AGAIN SUPPRESSED. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENTJ CHRISTCHUBCH. Saturday. The man who was brought before Mr. V. 6. Day, S.M., yesterday on charges of stealing three bicycles, and whose name was ordered to be suppressed, was brought before the Court again this morning. Accused pleaded gudty yesterday, and was remanded in order to give the probation officer an opportunity of making inquiries regaring his character. The probation officer's report was favourable, and was supported by other evidence. The magistrate said, in view of this evidence and the probation officer's report, he would admit accused to probation for two years. Accused was not altogether mentally strong, as he had suffered from water on the brain while young. The magistrate ordered that accused's name should not be published.
