McCONACHY BEATS AIKEN. RECORD BREAK BY NEWMAN Australian and N-Z. Cable Association. (Becd. 2.40 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 1. C. McConachv, the New Zealand billiard ohampion, conceding T. Aiken, the Scottish champion, 4000 in a match of 16,000 up, defeated him with a margin of 373, Aiken's score being 15,627. McConachv on the final day made breaks of 547,' 269, 185, 167, and 164. Playing Against C. Falkiner, C. Newman made a record break of 1374, At the close of play on Friday he had reached .109 unfinished. On resuming on Saturday he increased this to 1274, when he accidentally fouled his opponent s ball. Newman is showing extraordinarily brilliant form, averaging three figures at nearly every session. His best average no far is 204 for four visits to the table, lie has held the lead throughout tho match, his chief breaks being 1274, 389, m, 341, 301, 256, and 247.
