JAZZ CABARET.

The New Year was ushered in with much light-hearted gaiety in the Town Hall at tne jazz cabaret on Saturday evening when the dancers joined hands to the strains of "Au'ld Lang Syne" and brought to a close a very successful evening. There was a very large attendance, and the excellent music provided by Adams' jazz band added considerably to everybody's enjoyment. The hall was artistically decorated, and a charming effect was given by eoftly-coloured lights and Chinese lanterns," which, with gaily-coloured balloons, were suspended from trails of lycopodium. An Eastern effect was given to the stage by a tent-like canopy under which coloured lights were arranged, and tall palms and Eastern ornaments added to the artistic setting. Under the galleries small tables were atri aged where light refreshment* were served, and until twelve o'clock, when the cabaret closed, the scene was one of much brightness and gaiety in which the interest never flagged.
