NORTH SHORE YACHT CLUB.

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES.

The North Shore Yacht Club held its annual smoke concert and presentation of prizes in the Chamber of Commerce on Saturday evening. The commodore, Mr. W. R. Ingram, presided, and there was a large attendance of yachtsmen, including representatives from the following clubs:—Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Mannkau Yacht and Launch Club. Pousonby Cruising Club, Victoria Cruising Club, Takapuna Boating Club. Point Chevalier Sailing Club, and the New Zealand Power-boat Association. The hall was tastefully decorated with flags, and there was a fine display of trophies. The chairman stated that the past season had been a very successful one, and although the yachtsmen of Auckland were still without the much-needed boat harbour, there was every reason to believe that the coming season would be even more successful than the past one. He was pleased to see such a large gathering of yachtsmen, which was evidence of the splendid feeling of goodfellowship that existed among the various clubs iu Auckland.

Mr. W. A. Wilkinson, vice-commodore, stated that eight days had been devoted to racing last season and on nearly every occasion no fewer than 10 classes hab been catered for. The club had given away £63 10s in cash prizes, in addition to 81 trophies, valued »t £IC>2 The prizes were presented to the successful boat-owners by the commodore. Of these the most important were the Ingram and Dunning Cups, which were both won by the 22-footer Marie, the former being the first prize for the 100-mile ocean race, and the latter for the general handicap. Among the toasts honoured were " The King." " The Visitors." " Trophy Donors." and "The Commodore." A splendid musical programme was provided, the contributors being Messrs. S. Prrtchard, C. Joll. W. Jones, L. Lambert. Stretton. H. Middelton. and G. Shoreland. -A PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB. The Ponsonby Cruising Club will hold its 21et annual meeting in the club-house. St. Mary's Bay, next Thursday. The annual report states that the programme arranged for the season was carried out in its entirety, and on the whole it was one of the most successful in the history of the club, the entries for the season being a record. The regatta as usual attracted an unusually Large number of entries being also a record. The racing was keenly contested, and in many instances very close finishes were witnessed. Several trophies had been donated to the club, and these were duly allotted, in addition to £129 7e in cash, which brought the total allots ment of prizes to over £200. It has always been the aim of the club, the report continues, to divert back to the contestants as large a share of the club's funds as possible, so as to encourage racing in the club. The actual cash allotment this year falls short of last, year's amount by £30. but the committee felt that they had exceeded their finances last year, and so cut down the amount of the first prizes in the cruising events. The balance shows that the club is in a sound financial position. The total receipts from all sources is £i:! 46s 4d. including £132 3s from euchre and dance socials. The expenditure totals £384 3s 3d. the principal items being £129, for cash prizes, and £104 6s sd, for euchre socials. The liabilities amount to only £13 lis 6d, leaving a balance of assets over liabilities to the value of £363 lis lOd.

TAKAPUNA BOATING CLUB. An enjoyable smoke concert was held on Friday evening in the Foresters' Hall. Takapuna. by the Takapuna Boating Club. The Mayor. Mr. A. M. Gould, was among those present. The commodore. Mr. B. Bach, who occupied the chair, said that last year the Takapuna Club and the Milford Club were in opposition to each other, but now that the clubs were combined he was sure that the time was not far distant when it would be one of the strongest in Auckland. He mentioned that at the club's picnic last year, the Governor-General, Viscount Jellicoe. had had hia first win on the Waitemata with the Iron Duke. The prizes won were distributed.
