MOUNT ALBERT DOMAIN.
REPLY TO CRITICISM. With regard to the complaint by a correspondent 'in yesterday's Herald as to the bad state of the Mount Albert Domain, the Mayor, Mr. A. F. Bennett, stated that he visited the domain yesterday morning and found it in as good a condition as one could reasonably expect at this time of the year. It was not true, he said, that a motor-car could not be driven up. He had driven his own car up as recently as last Saturday to the park entrance. It was impossible to spend a lot of money on permanent work, but a good firm scoria track led up from the. entrance, and it was intended later to form a footpath right to the gate. The Domain Board had met on Wednesday evening and decided to push on with a beautifying scheme. A large playing area was already in use by the Auckland Football Association. The trouble was that larrikins got in and j committed gross vandalism. Wire fences were cut, seats were pulled up and actually used ag toboggans down the mountain slopes. In regard to the Morningside Reserve, the council had decided to purchase a number of suitable plants, and it was expected that the children of the Mount Albert public school would undertake the planting of these.
