UNIVERSITY COLLEGE NEEDS.
REQUEST FOR A FREEHOLD.
Two matters affecting the interests of the Auckland University College were before the City Council last evening. The College Council applied recently for the freeh&ld of two sections in Princes Street adjoining the Metropolitan Grounds, the lease of which is at present held bv the educational body. It was decided to'refer back to the Parks Committee a recommendation shelving the subject s© that it might hear further representations. Another application from the College Council which had been under the consideration of the same committee was for facilities for research at Waitakere. This the committee recommended be granted, the waterworks engineer, Mr. J. Carlaw, having reported that only 20 acres of the whole block was on the water-sheds, so that there would be no danger to the supply by granting the request.. The recommendation was adopted.
