CONSULTATION ON PACIFIC.
PLACE NOT YET FIXED. A. and N.Z. LONDON. July 27. In the absence s of official statements conflicting rumours are clouding the main business of the conference of Prime Minis.ters. Many places and dates are named for the preliminary discussion on the Pacific question, but the only fact in the maze of uncertainty is that nothing! has been settled. Imperial and Dominion, delegates, in answer to questions, say that if any meeting-place has been mentioned it is not as a result of their deliberations, but has been arranged regardless of them. It is improbable that any action will be taken without reference to Parliament. Despatches are still being exchanged overseas, but that most eagerly awaited has not arrived. Till this reply comes definite and clear it is impossible to arrange details. It is expected that a decision will be reached to-morrow, when an official announcement of the meetingplace for the preliminary conference will be made. '
SLeanwhile the newspapers are changing the scene, regardless of geographical difficulties and the expressed intentions of those most interested.
The conference of Prime Ministers discussed the Pacific question yesterday. Later the Prime Ministers met privately. The strictest secrecy was observed.
