HOCKEY.

THE WHITE HORSE GDP. The White Horse Cup hockey tournament was continued at Eemuera yesterday afternoon. The weather was very wet. steady rain falling for the greater portion of the time play was in progress. The grounds in consequence were very heavy, but this did not prewnt some good hockey being provided tor the fair number of spectators who assembled. On No. 1 ground Rodney and Tauranga played a drawn game, each side scoring one goal. Whangarei defeated Bay of Plenty by 3 goals to 1 on No. 2 gTound. Franklin forfeited to Thames, as they could not raise a full team. A scratch game played between them was won bv Thames by 5 goals to 2. RODNEY V. TAURANGA. Bodney won the opening bully, and carried play to their opponent*' territory, but too hard hitting spoiled their chances. Taurrjiga then attacked, a free hit allowing Rodney to clear. The latter's forwards carried play to Tauranga's circle, and only good work by Walsh kept them out. Keeping up tho pressure, a, good centre wa.s rej ceived by Goertz in the circle. and he j scored. The game was fast and open for I the remainder of the spell, ermf.c shooting on both sides preventing them altering the score before half-time. Rodney. 1; Tauranga. 0. The second spell opened with Tauranga attacking strongly, but their shot? wen? wide. Eventually McCutcheon gained possession in Rodney's territory, and centred to" F. Simmonds. who found the net and equalised the scores. Play was very fast and even till the conclusion of the game, each eide attacking in turn without further success. Bay of Plenty seemed to have the t>etter of the opening stages of play, but their shots went wide. Whangarei then attacked, and after a great tussle in the circle were repelled. Hannam got possession, and after a fine run down the wing, sent to Harrison, who centred to Cook in the circle, and he opened Whangarei's >occount. Bay of Plenty made great eßorts to equalise the score, but there was no chaEge before the interval. Whangarei, 1; Bay of Plenty, 0. On reGaming Bay of Plenty pressed for some time but their efforts were spoiled by slowneas at shooting. Whangarei cleared and took play to the other end, where Massey received in the circle and found the net. Five mimitee before tim© B. THE LADIES' TOURNAMENT. The ladies' hockey tournament for the Auckland provincial cup opened at RemueTa yesterday afternoon. Auckland A defeated Auckland B "by 4 goals to 2. Misses Btitland (2). Hamlin and Bestic scored for the winners and Misses Hartley and Barton for Auckland B. Whangarei defeated Waihi by 12 ffoals to 1. Misses Lowe (6), Sloane (3), McKinnon (2) and Wilkinson scored for the winners and Miss Williams for the losers. The draw for the. matches to b* played to-day is as follows:—Auckland A v. The annual match between the Victoria University College and the Auckland University College will be played at Remuera at 5 p.m. to-morrow. The two colleges have met on three occasions—at Wellington in 1912. at Auckland in 1914. and at Feilding in 1920—the Auckland University College winning all three games by 5 goals to 1. The games were suspended during the war period. The Wellington players are reported to be a strona» combination, bad as they favour the open style of play a fast and interesting game should be witnessed. The team will arrive by the express this afternoon, and they will be the guests of the Auckland University College Club's annual *' At Home " this evening. To-morrow they will be entertained at dinner at the Waverley Hotel I while a motor drive has been arranged for Sunday afternoon.
