The Indian Davis Cup team, owing to the fire on the Mauretania, is unable to keep its fixture against the Japanese in the semi-final at Chicago, and has, therefore, requested a few days' grace, otherwise they will be compelled to scratch. By defeating Canada, Australasia qualifies to play the British Isles in the second round of the Davis Cup contest. India has already defeated France in the second round, Belgium has forfeited to Japan, and Argentina has forfeited to Denmark. Only one semi-final will' be played, between Japan and India, Denmark having withdrawn from the contest. The final to decide the team to meet the United States in the challenge round for the cup will be played between Britain "or Australia and Japan or India.
