COUNCILLORS RESIGN.

WANGANUI DEVELOPMENT. JBT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANTJT. Wednesday. A meeting of the Borough Council concluded sensationally just before midnight. At the last municipal election a Citizens' ticket impliedly .pledged to prevent the installation of a large steam plant as a standby at the tramway power house, was elected and obtained a majority on the council. A few meetings ago it wa» decided to erect a small portion of the plant and sell the remainder in order to. obtain funds with which to reticulate the town. Since then three members of the Citizens' ticket have become supporters of the large scheme, and by their change of front the opponents of the Citizens' ticket gained a majority. To-night a motion rescinding the resolution to install a small portion of the plant was carried in favour of one to put in the whole plant, to cost oTer £80,000, The remaining members of the Citizens' ticket then handed in their resignations, intimating that they would seek re-elec-tion. Some striking developments are expected.
