t # DEVONPORT. The Devonport Borough Council met lsst evening Those present were the Mayor, Mr. H. S. W. King. Messrs- 9. W. Luxford, J. Mays, C. L- Stevenson, H. Linder, A. V. Fraer, U T. Michaels, A. Bartley, E. H. Little, and G- V. rearce. The Takapuna Board of Control wrote aekirsK that arrears amounting to £176 be paid. The Mayor expressed ignorance as to the matter, and Mr. Michaels, the council's representative on the board, intimated that he would ascertain how the supposed arrears were brought about. A letter was read from the Auckland Harbour Board, in reply to an application from the council for a contribution toward the cost of relayins the mam sewer in Queen's Parade, refusing to entertain the request on the around that in 1915 the board made e. erant for the eewor on. the council giving an undertaking that no further claim would bo made against the board for drainage at Calliope Dock. The Mayor explained that by reason of the war vessels now being stationed at the dock there was more call on the drainage system, and he thought the Harbour Board ought to recognise that point. It was resolved to request the medical officer of health to make an early inspection of all boarding' houec3 and flats. The Mayor said it had, been originally understood that the rate of interest would bo 5J per cent., but it would mw be 6 per cent. A statement of the estimates for the year showed revenue as follows:—Consolidated rate. £15,000: les« hoepita! levy. £1375: interest. £3125: making, with the Government subsidy, a total of £10,960. In addition there would, be:—Licenses. £170: fees, I £120: and miscellaneous, £1396: making a grand total of £12-6-56.
