HOCKEY.

THE WHITE HORSE CUP.

The White Horse Cup competition was continued at Bemuera yesterday afternoon m. fine weather, and in the presence of a tair attendance of spectators. Rodney defeated Bay of Plenty bv 2 goals to 1 after a last and interesting game. Tauranga beat rj'rankhn by 3 goals to 0. There was no score in the first hs>lf. but in the second tHe lauranga team did most of the attacking, and if their shooting had been at all accurate they must hive won by a larger margin-. Wbangarei defeated Thames by 5 pals to 2. The Whangarei team had all the better of the first spell, and had 4 goals to tneir credit at the interval, while their opponents had failed to score. The Thames team showed to much better advantage in trie second half, scoring twice, while Whan. *"** added only one "goal to their total. Lite following table shows the positions of the various teams:

RODNEY v. BAY OF PLENTY. In the first spell the clever combination or the Rodney forwards frequently resulted m corner hits, but the strong defence oi the Bay of Plenty backs prevented them scoring. Keeping up the pressure they were eventually rewarded by R. Powdrili finding the net with a fino shot. A little later S. Morrison added a second goal from a corner. Promising rushes by tue Bay of Plenty team were spoiled by offside play. In the second spell Rodney attacked from the opening bully and were conceded two corners, following which the Bay of Plenty forwards made a series of clever rushes which ended in Kelly scoring a good goal from a corner. Rodney then attacked, but iheir efforts lacked finish, and the Bay of Plenty backs kept them out. Bay of Plenty attacked strongly toward the end of the garne and were unlucky in not adding to their score. Rodney, 2: Bay of Plenty, 1. Mr. L. Norton was reieree.

TAURANGA v. FRANKLIN

On No. 2 ground the game between Tanranga and Franklin was in favour of the former during the first half. They freqently reached their opponents' circle, but erratic shooting and good defensive work by the Franklin backs kept them from scoring, and neither sido had points to their credit at the interval. On resuming. Tauranga attacked strongly and from a good centre by McDonald F. Simmonds found the net. After a brief attack by Franklin, Tauranga returned and F. Simmonds again scored. Keeping up the pressure, H. Simmonds centred to F. Simmonds, and a, third goal to» registered for Tauranga. The game ended shortly afterwards: Tauranga. 3; Franklin, 0. Mr. R. Brown was referee.

WHANGAREI V. THAMES. Whangarei had much the better of the first half against Thames, and had i goals (B. Sloane 3. Cook), to their credit at the interval, while Thames had failed to find the not- However, these scores were not a fair indication as to the merits of the teams, for the Thames players, though inferior in the backs, more than held their own in the forwards- In the second spell the Whangarei half line did not play up to expectations and Macken scored twice for Thames, while Sloane added another goal for Whangarei, making the final score: Whangarei, 5; Thames. 2. Mr. L. C. Kent was referee. The matches for to-day are:—Tauranga v. Rodney, No. 1, 3.15 p.m., Mr- L. C. Kent: Whangarei v. Bay of Plenty, No. 2„ 3 p.m.. Mr. R, Brown: Franklin v.
