WAR MEMORIAL LIBRARY.

WORK OP THE COMMITTEE. The first -untiual > meeting of the Mayoress' War Memorial Library Committee will he held in the council chambers, Town Hall, this morning. During the past year the work of the committee has been actively prosecuted.' Six thousand books and many papers and magazines have been distributed throughout the city and province, to soldiers, sailors, and various institutions, and to the people of the back blocks of the province. The work of the committee lies in collecting, repairing, and distributing reading matter to various sections of the community, this b;ing done as a memorial to the services of, and in gratitude to, those who fought, suffered, and sacrificed for the Empire in the war. A special feature of the work is that which is done for the children in the various hospitals and orphanages. Scrap-books showing real artistic merit are made from coloured scraps cut out and pasted into books formed out of stiff wall paper or old copybooks, covered with coloured paper, and tied with coloured raffia grass. It is hoped that all interested in the work of the committee will attend the meeting, and especially the members of the followipg organisations, whose subcommittees are responsible for the work of the committee:—The St. John Ambulance, the Navy League, the. Victoria League-, Civic Leasue, Flying Angel Mission, Haeremai Club, and the members of the Auckland Women's Patriotic League. Part of to-day's programme will be a visit to the bookroom, where the repair and 'other work is effected.
