FIRE ON MAURETANIA.

.0 OUTBREAK AT SOUTHAMPTON. SAVED FROM SINKING. A. and N.Z. LONDON. July 25. A serious fire occurred on the Mauretania at Southampton. At one time the gigantic Cunarder was in danger of sinking owing to the tons of water which the firemen poured in, but the pumps were manned and the ship righted. The fire commenced in a state room, and burned for several hours, the flames leaping to a great height.
