THE BOXING RING.

BANTAM-WEIGHT CHAMPION. HERMAN WINS BACK TITLE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Becd. 10.5 p.m.) NEW YORK. July 25. Pete Herman, who recently lost the world's bantam-weight championship to Joe Lynch in a 15-ronnd bout, won back the title to-day* by outpointing Lynch in a fast 15-round bout. BECKETT AND COOK. RELUCTANT CHALLENGER. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Becd- 9.30 p-m.) LONDON, July 25. The Sporting Life declares that people are discussing adversely Joe Beckett's failure to get to grips with George Cook, the Australian heavy-weight, as something like a breach of faith. Beckett challenged Cook for £1000 aside. Cook accepted the challenge, but Beckett has since been silent, though Cook agreed to give Beckett an additional £250 from his share of the purse. The newspaper adds that people can scarcely be blamed for thinking that Beckett has no wish to fight Cook. Cook's manager declares that he will now probably approach Carpentier for a match after the Frenchman returns from the United States later in the year. Ted Moore, the welter-weight boxer, has refused to go to Australia without a guarantee of £2500, though he has signed a contract. Mr. Hubert Barry, who is taking out the Stadium boxers, sternly criticises Moore's default in a letter to Sporting Life.
