ENTERTAINMENTS.

SHAKESPEAREAN SEASON. The Allan Wilkie Shakespearean Co. repeated "The Merchant of Venice" before a large audience at His Majesty's Theatre last evening.' Mr. Wilkie as Shylock, and Miss Lorna Forbes as Portia, played the principal roles with distinct success. This afternoon, " for the last matinee of 'the season. Shakespeare's great Roman tragedy, " Julius Caesar." will be staged. Mr Wilkie will appear as Marc Antony, Mr. Augustus Neville as Caesar, Mr. Robert Pnrdie as Cassius, and Mr. Jack Lennon as Brutus. This evening. "As You Like It" will be repeated, with Miss HunterWatts in the role of Rosalind. ST. MARK'S PARISH GUILD. A most successful musical and dramatic entertainment, arranged by Mrs. .M. M. McCallum. was held by St. Mark's Parish Guild in the church hall last evening. There was a large attendance, and the programme, which was of a varied nature, was greatly enjoyed. A playlet entitled, " Two- Cooks," was presented by Misses McVeagh and Jocelyn Dixon, and proved extremely amusing. Songs were given by Mrs. H. W. Cooke, Miss Mary MacCormick and Mr. A. E. Churchouse. " Choosing a Dress" was the title of a monologue by Miss McVeagh, while Miss Freda Crosher, Miss Ronayne, Mr. D. Flood, and Mr. A. McElwain were also responsible for clever sketches. Master Fred McCallum was heartily applauded for his recitation, " The Vicar and I." A violin solo was contributed by Miss Cameron-Johnson and a 'cello solo by Mr. H. 0. McFarlane. Mr. Eric Waters acted as accompanist. "THE LIARS." An amusing play, entitled "The Liars," by Henry Arthur Jones, was presented by the Grafton Shakespeare Club at the Epsom Library Hall last evening. There was a crowded audience, which thoroughly enjoyed the production and heartily applauded the performers. Mrs. Frank Turner took the part of Lady Jessica, while Mr. H. G. Palethorpe appeared as Freddy Tatton, Mr. W. H. Graham as Edward Falkner, and Mr. A. Wyllie as Sir Christopher Deering. Others included in the cast were Mesdames Gainor Jackson and E. H. Potter, Misses I. Manning, W. H. Softley, and H. Brosnan, Messrs. A. 0. Horspool, A. Woodham, 11. Henderson, C. M. Rattray, and F. Turner. COSTUME CHARITY CONCERT. This evening a costume charity concert, arranged by Misses Beresford, will be given in the Town Hall concert chamber. The performers will include many leading artists and Miss Aileen Beresford's pupils, who will contribute songs and dances of all nations. The proceeds of the entertainment will be devoted to the Takapuna Orphanage. DRAMATIC RECITAL. Madame Mabel St. James will give a dramatic and humorous recital in the Devonport parish hall this evening. The vocalist will be Miss Annie Bond. AUCKLAND CHORAL SOCIETY. "The Bohemian Girl," Balfe's melodious opera, will be presented by the Auckland Choral Society in the Town Hall on Thursday, August 4. The. opera will be rendered with full orchestra and chorus, assisted by well-known soloists.
