BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY. [Nt TELEGBATK.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] "TAURANGA, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Beautifying Society was hei'.d last night. 'ISio report dealt with tho operations of the society since it was formed in September last, and showed that its main efforts had been directed to beautifying work at the Monmouth redoubt overlooking the town waterfront. With a view to fostering the beautifying spirit- a cottage garden competition had alio been held, and was a great success. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit balanco of over £5. It was decided, with a viuw to widening the scope of the society*!! activities, that its name he changed to tho Horticultural and Beautifying Society, and that a show be held at an early date. Officers were elected as follow:—Patron, the- Mayor, Mr. B. Dive; president, Captain Gilbert Mair; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. S. Harris and E. Burgess; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. R. C. Walker; executive committee, Captain Mair, md Messrs. W. S. Harris, E. Burgess, W. R. C. Walker, J. C. Adams, and J. H. Davidson; auditor, Mr. A. Withy. Two sub-committees to control the beautifying and horticultural branches of the society were appointed. There are indications of an early spring in Tauranga. In some orchards the plum and peach treeii are oat in full bloom. Willow trees all over the district are also in new leaf
