KILLED BY A TRAIN.
AN ACCIDENTAL OCCURRENCE
The adjourned inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Henry Egerton Martin, aged 63, who was killed when alighting from a train at Waikumete on July 15, was concluded yesterday by the coroner, Mr. W. R. McKean. S.M. At the previous hearing a son of the deceased gave evidence that his father was practically blind in one eye and suffered from rheumatism.
Yesterday, George McFarlane, porter at the station, said the train was stationary for one and a-hal£ minutes and when it started the deceased, carrying 6ome parcels, stepped backwards out of the carriage and fell beneath the train. Thisstatement corroborated by passengers and the coroner retnrned a verdict of accidental death.
