MOUNT EDEN.

The Monnt Eden; Borough Council met last everting, the Mayor. Mr. J. W. Shackelford, presiding. There -were also present: Messrs. A. M. Bryden. E H. Potter, G. L. Taylor. W- H. Nagle. W. J. Hammill. J. P. Hooton. J. M. Melville. J. Smith. and L. Joll

The Finance Committee reported having received advice from the State Advances i UfSce that £5000 had been remitted to the credit of JNo. 13 Toad loan. The Mayor said thig would . enable the council to proceed with important formation work in Balmoral Koad East. In connection with the raising of £ 10.000 rroin the Government Insurance Department, the Mayor and the treasurer were authorised" **> sign the debenturesThe engineer reported that owing to the excessive demand for material from the various Three, Kings scoria pits he found considerable difficulty in procuring supplies. In tuture ho proposed to . obtain supplies from the Government Mount Albert, where there was an abundance of suitable' material. The report wa3 adopted. It was decided that temporary repairs be effected to Mount Eden Koad from St. Leonards Road to Boundary Road. .The Public Works Department notified that it would be necessary for the council to make a bona-fide attempt to come to an arrangement with Mount Roskill Boa<> Board regarding construction of Landscape Road and. maintenance of Boundary Road. If objections were raised a commission would be appointed. It wag resolved that the Mayor and the engineer meet the chairman and the ' engineer of the" Mount Roskill Road Board. ONEHUNGA. The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening. There were present: The Mayor, Mr J. Park, and Messrs. W. N. Mcintosh, A McColl. J. Macklow R. Ainsworth. J. E. Cowell. T. K. Gilbert, p. P.. Lipscombe. E. Morton and A. McLeod. The council referred to committee a request by the local Chamber of "Commerce for a donation of £5 15s Gd, being one-fifth of the expenses incurred by Mr. F. E. Powell. C.E.. in preparing a report on the TamakiMunukau canal route for tHe Inland Waterways Commission. The council considered that it should not take sides on the question of railw lys v. electricity, and declined to say which it considered to be the more important—railway construction or electric power construction. A reply to this effect was ordered<to be sent to Mr. P. E. Cheal. chairman of tho. Auckland Railways League, from whom a circular letteT was received. The Mayor was authorisod to sfgn the amended agreement between the City Council and Onehunga with regard to the Electric Ppwer Board.
