FRESH AIR
Sii-, —The mnporUnce . ,jt t thjs Mb J ect leads ma to ask for a littU of > our & P aLe - As a teacher, the sublet t aB . beell raucil before me. Many schools _ h * xe rooms with one aspect onlj • Un wc * , days, when the wind sets thai ' w *>'• ? windows have to be kept, clost d - &ucn rooms should at once have 01-h*.' m * a . ns provided of adequately changing J. le alr;l"hen a few of our teachers ha?, en been trained in fresh air habits. * l * aa > masters and inspectors should look a. t^' r iSiese, and .-~ee that they open windoH vs and ventilators on all proper oC':ajyon\ ■ When these two matters are attended to uir schools will not be much to blame as disease-breeders, except in those cases one sometimes hears of where committees do not properly see to the cleanwig. The Hon. C. J. Parr was right h; saying that the schools are not the main disease-breeders. It is the parents who deserve the chief blame. If anyone will walk along our principal residenti&i s' reets at 5 o'clock even on a fiue summer morning and look at all the windows in sight he will quickly conclude that i in a host of cases bedroom ventilation is utterly ignored. Far more foul-air misohief is wrought in our bedrooms than in our schools. And what about the air in some of our picture theatres ? I think it. would be an excellent move of the Health Department to pn;ysent every ' couple app'ying to the marriage registrar with a pafr.phlet telling them things young married folk would be the better to know. When the registrar registered a birth another booklet, this time on the care of chi'dren, should be given. Half the pamphlets would of course 'be thrown away ; the other half would work untold benefit to the nation. Ex-Teacher.
