NEW Y.M.C.A. SECRETARY.
WELCOME TO ME. BRASTED.
A welcome was tendered to Mr. S. M. Brastedj the new general secretary for the Auckland Y.M.C.A., by members ol the association last evening. The actingpresident, Mr. Wj E. Bush, presided over an attendance of about 130.
Reference was made by various speakers to Mr. Brasted's extensive record in Y.M.C.A. work. Hailing from Adelaide, ho had spent several years in America, was engaged in Y.M.C.A. war work in France and England from 1915 to 1918, and was latterly national secretary for boys' work in Australia. The speakers included Messrs. A. Varoey, national general secretary for New Zealand, R. H. Horsley, W. D.' M. Glaister, W. J. Holdsworth. R. Mcßae, L. Kendall, H. J. Fountain, G. W. Adair, R. L. Stewart, and H. W. Shove.
Mr. Brasted, in replyj complimented the association on its equipment, which his own observation convinced him was the finest in Australia or New Zealand. He was also greatly impressed with the work of the boys' department, which compared very favourably with similar departments in America, and was easily the best he had seen outside America,. He spoke of the prominent place which the Y.M.C.A. occupied in the life of the American people, and expressed the hope that the movement would expand to similar proportions in New Zealand.
