BRITISH LABOUR'S REBUFF. A PRETENCE AND HYPOCRISY. LONDON, June 22. The annual conference of the British Labour Party has delivered a direct rebuff to communists, for it has decided, by an overwhelming majority of 3.500,000 votes, to adhere to the decision not to admit the communist party unless it agrees to accept the constitution and rules of the Labour Party. The speeches of delegates were remarkable for their bitterness against the communists. M". Herbert Smith declared they were not vrolves, and 'would not even make ! good shtep. Taey hod urged the mi.:eis j to come cut on strike, but deserted them I in their hour of need. | Mr. Shinwell, an Independent Labour delegate from Glasgow, characterised communism as a mere pretence and mere hypocrisy, the essence of which was castiron discipline imposed from Moscow.
