CUSTOMS HOUSE OUTRAGE.

VALUABLE DOCUMENTS SAVED

SINN FEIN EXCUSES.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 9.30 p.m.) LONDON. May 28. An examination of the ruins of the Dublin Customs House show that all the safes are unharmed, and that the spacious vaults containing documents of great importance, were completely undamaged by fire.

The Irish Bulletin, the official organ of Sinn Fein, describes the destruction of the Dublin Customs House by the direction of the Dail Eireann Ministry, as an unavoidable military necessity, being part of a plan to make the functioning of the British Government in Ireland impossible. The organ adds that the press, which is now condemning the measure, remained silent while British soldiers and police destroyed 15 city and town halls, whole streets of shops, and hundreds of residences and farmsteads.

It is estimated that the cost of rebuilding the Customs House will be £1,000,000. The city of Dublin will pay for the work.
