LURE OF THE BILLIARD TABLE
PROBATION FOR THREE YEARS.
" This boy cannot be kept away from the billiard table." said Chief Detective McMahon during the hearing of a case in the Juvenile Offenders' Court, before Mr. J. W. Poynton. S.M., on Saturday, when a boy, aged 15, admitted having stolen £10, the property of William Allen, at Hick's Bay. It was stated that the lad was employed as a carpenter's apprentice and stayed in the same tent as complainant. He had not been leading a good life. He had been drunk and was a gseat gambler. His father had done all hs could to control the boy. but he needed further restraint. The boy was placed on probation for three years, the money to be refunded forthwith.
