RIDER AND HORSE KILLED.
PAKURANGA FARMER'S DEATH
FALL INTO WATERCOURSE. An unusual fatality occurred at Paku« ranga last week, a farmer, Mr. John Sutherland, being found dead in a ditch beneath the body of a horse»he had been riding, both rider and horse having broken their necks. Deceased had ridden out , > from his home st about 4.30 p.m» to sea ;: that his boat at Mellin's Bay was sale : and to bring in a cow. As he did not return a search was made by bis nephew,who took a dog with him. The dog found the bodies in a ditch at about 6.30 p.m. V Tie fall had apparently been caused by the horse getting into a ditch and then slipping along it and into a watercourse. ■-It Mr. Sutherland -was a married man, aged 47 years. He had previously "been employed in tie railway goods shed at Auck- : land, and had been at Pakuranga for about two years. At an inquest neld by the district iji coroner, Me. A. Harris, a verdict was re- 81 turned that death, was due to a broken neck caused by an accidental fall from a horse. The funeral took place at iha Presbyterian Cemetery, Howick, yestsr- ,jT day. !
