NEW PERIL IN SILESIA.

THREAT OF BOLSHEVISM.

INSURGENTS SHORT OF FOOD. GERMANS TERRORISED. By Teleeraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Receiyed 11.30 p.m.) Renter. LiONDON, May 21. Events in Upper Silesia have taken a serious turn owing to dissatisfaction among the insurgents due to a shortage of food and money. There is a strong tendency to break away from the national movement in the direction of Bolshevism. The food* situation is partly attributable to the German Government withholding supplies. A Times message from Berlin states that Silesian landlords seeking sanctuary tell strange stories of the cruelty of the Polish insurgents. A mixture of bribery and terrorism is directed against those who voted in the plebiscite in favour of Germany, .It is stated that a schoolmaster was stripped naked and tortured to death. Throughout the country insurgents plundered and looted, burning stores and destroying villages. Families returning to their chateaux found them ransacked, the furniture smashed, pictures ripped, and their stock stolen.
