WAGES OF SEAMEN.
NEW AUSTRALIAN RATES. A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT. A- and N.Z. ' SYDNEY, May 14. A tentative agreement has been reached between the Seamen's Union and the j inter-State Steamship Owners' Association ! for increased wages and improved condij tions. The agreement provides for an increase of 10s monthly in wages and ceri tain concessions in manning and messing, and also provision for the settlement of all disputes and grievances. Ta return, the union guarantees to abandon job control and to abide by arbitration for the settlement of all disputes. If the agreement is ratified it will mean an increase in freights and possibly also j in passenger charges.
