DISMISSAL OF WORKERS, [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDKNT.2 TAUBA2JGA. Saturday. The dismissal of men from the Otumoetai portion of the East Coast railway, westward of Tauranga, was discussed by the executive of the Farmers' Union today. The chairman, Mr. T. Lochhead, urged thatv a united protest should be made against the reduction in the number of men, and he moved that the executive protest against the reduction of ■workers on the Waihi-Tauranga section, of the East Coast railway, and urge that work thrbugh the Otumoetai district should be completed j further, that construction should be commenced westward from the Wairoa River. In seconding the motion Mr. Gane said that instead of the Government establishing unemployment camps it should employ men on railway works. Mr. T. Tanner said he understood that about 40 men had been dismissed. The motion was carried unanimously, and it was decided to ask the Auckland Kailways League and the Mavor of Waihi for support.
