MASONIC GRAND LODGE.

CONCLUSION OF BUSINESS.

MEETINGS IX NOVEMBER.

The communication of the Masonic Grand Lodge concluded yesterday. The greater part of the sitting was devoted to the question of tho period of the year for future communications. The objection with regard to tho claims for accommodation in Christ-church during carnival time was met by an explanation that it rested with the Board of General Purposes to fix the time for Masonic gathering later in the month. Eventually November was decided upon, and the necessary amendments of the constitution were made.

The recommendation of the Board of General Purposes ior the creation of the rank of assistant provincial grand master, who should have authority over lodges in a section of a province, was adopted. The principal purpose of this amendment was to meet the needs of the Auckland district, which is the largest, in territory, but is desirious of maintaining its present position as an undivided district under the present provincial grand master.^ The question of the centralisation of the Grand Lodge office, as against the present peripatetic system, was brought up, but the discussion was brief, and notice of motion was tabled for its fuller consideration at the next communication. The proposed universal adoption of the board of inquiry system with recard to candidates for Freemasonry was defeated, and eventually referred to the Board of General Purposes, as were one or two other points of purely Masonic interest. The Grand Lodge will neTt meet at Chrislchurch, in November, 1922. \ The lartre number of southern and country visitors were entertained in the afternoon at a harbour excursion, and in the evening there was a concert, dance, and supper at the Town Hall.
