ARRANGING TRANSPORT.
RAMIFICATIONS OF STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright A. and N.Z. LONDON, May 11The Board of Trade announces that the Government has arranged to import coal to ensure the maintenance of services essential to the life of the community. Measures will be taken to provide for the transport of coal imported not for private profit but to meet the vital needs of the people. Any coal privately imported will be liable to be diverted in the national interests. The Transport Federation announces that the Gas Workers' Union and other trade unions have informed them that members have been suspended for refusing to work coal which was unloaded by volunteer labour. The federation had no power to advise non-affiliated unions, but its own members, having given proof of loyalty to the miners, the transport workers were confident that other unions would, refuse to handle foreign coaL The railwaymen and transport workers will hold a conference over the matter on Friday.
