The High Commissioner cables under date London March 12 as follows: — Meat—Home killed in email supply. Average prices are: Beef. Is B\d per lb: mutton, lls 9d per lb.; lamb. 2s lid per lb. There j are moderate supplies of chilled beef at the maximum price. The market is affected by the large supply of frozen beef, a larse proportion being of inferior cuality. Prices arc irregular. For prime Arjenimo ox. frown, lid and 7d is being obtained, but for inferior quality the price is about as low as 8d and 6d, tor hinds and fore* respectively. , In New Zealand beef sales and quotations i are nominal. New Zealand mutton owned ! by the Imperial Government is difficult to sell owins to being heavy-weight. Free New Zealand light-weight mutton and lamb is selling froelr At maximum prices. Butter.—The position has sot changed. English is in small supply. The average price is £18 13s per cwt. (3s 4d per lb.). Irish is Quoted at £13 10s to £15 (2s 5d to j 3s 8d per lb.). January-March to March-May ehipmenta. now quoted at £38 per ton. The New Zealand market continues inactive, with buyers of high points afloat at about £49 to £44. but theTe are no sellers at these prices. Spot is quoted at £45 and a fair March-May shipment at £40. Quotations are nominal. Wool. —The Bradford trade is dull and very little new business ie passing in either tops or yarn. Prices are in favour of buyers. Tope quotations are nominal. 64'e. Merino. 3s lid; 56's. super half-bred. 2s 7d; 40'e. coarse crossbred, prepared. Is 3Jd per lb. Hops.—The trade is still controlled. All English has been released by the controller, and the greater part are in the hands of brewers. The control price to growers for this eeason has been fixed at an average of £17 10s. At Amberley ewe fair to-day the attendance of buyers was particularly large, and right from the outset there was an improvement in prices as compared with earlier North I Canterbury ewe fairs.
