AMERICAN NAVAL BILL.
VOTE OF £79,000,000 SOUGHT.
NO REDUCTION OF PROGRAMME. A. and N.Z. WASHINGTON. Feb. 1.
The Naval Appropriations Bill, about to be reported to the House of Representatives, totals approximately 395,000,000 dollars—a reduction of 38,000,000 dollars compared with last year. The members of the committee think that the appropriation will necessitate a reduction in the enlisted personnel of the Navy from 153,000 to 100,000, but will permit of the continuation of building at the same rate as last yeas.
