NEWMARKET WAR MEMORIAL.
SELECTION OF A DESIGN. The war memorial to be erected by "the Newmarket Borough Council on the borough reserve will take the form of an obelisk. Designs were invited by the council some time ago, and six were sent in. A committee appointed to consider these recommended to the council at its meeting last evening that the one sent in by Mr. J. BouskSl be selected, and this recommendation was. adopted. The drawing of ,the obelisk chosen shows a plain column in polished granite, standing on a concrete base. The estimated cost of the memorial is £200. The council has just over £100 in hand and promised, including a contribution of its own of £50. A canvass of the borough is being undertaken by the Mayor, Mr. C. Leek, and members of the council in order to raise the balance required.
