BOXING CARNIVAL.

THE CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL. On exceptionally attractive programme has been arranged by the Northern Boxing Association for its Christmas carnival, which will be held at the Town Hall on Thiesday and Thursday evenings next. The committee has taken a great deal of trouble to secura the best talent available, and the matches they have arranged should provide patrons with the''best boxing entertainment that has ever been presented here. On Tuesday M. Rutherford will meet B. Jarvis for a purse of £200 Both competitors are in excellent form ana the contest is expected to be fast and interesting. In the amateur bouts Whittome and McCarthy, feather-weights, are evenly matched. The former is one of the best amabeur s in Auckland, and good judges consider that McCarthy has Qualified for professional ranks. A particularly- fine display of boxing is sure to result. J, Graham will meet McDonald, Rotorua. in the welterweights. These two fought in the Auckland championship, and after a sjreat battle Graham got the decision on points. There was very little between them, and the contest on Tuesday should be decidedly interesting. The other amateur bouts are:—Feather-weights.: Otway y. Brien; Dyer v. Haton; Dignan v. Battling Nelson (Te Aroha). Light-weights : Greig t. Brown. On Thursday J. Kcenan will meet G. Venn for a purse of £70, £50 expenses and the light-weight _ championship of New Zealand. Keenan is ri/rht at the top of his form, while Venn will enter the rin.T an fit as ever he has been. Les Gleeson (Australia) and J. Heenay (Gisborne) will meet for a purse of £200. They have fought twice before and both have a victory to their credit so that tne coming contest should be excej> tionally interesting. The Whittle midgets will give an exhibition on Thursday evening.
