SUBSCRIPTION TRIAL FOURS. The inter-club subscription trial fours of the St. George Rowing Club and the Waitemata Boating Ctub uerc rowed on Saturday afternoon. The contests proved most successful, and some exciting riiusbes were witnessed. In the *ir«l heat the crews were: Lucas (sti.i, Campbell. Schmidt, Carden, Surman tstr.t. T. Marshall. Brooke, Koss , Aimer Istr.). Mar»iiall. Harrington. Astley. Surman jikl l.iica were fir.-t away, and a very fast pave was »ct. The crews kept together tor a while, thru Aimer's four went to the trout, and led until about 100 yds. from home. Lucas' crew lengthened out. and gradually overhauled Aimer's tour. An exnting finish resulted in Lucas gelling the verdict by a canvas The crews i n the second heat were. <.hent. Peace. Buckler, V. Smith; Bryant, Koscoe, Aruc u. Inglis; Ooubledav, am hanan. Costel'..., Von Sturmer. From a good start Bryant's four drew ahead, but at the half-distance Ghent's four, rowing we.l together, passed the other two crews. »nd. increasing their advantage, crossed the lne a length and a-half ahead of Bryant. he crews m the third heat were: Lamb, Johnson. Wright. Tanner: Bryant tsub.l. Moresby Leyburn. Earily. Cairns. A. Lame. Llhs. Fountain. From an even despatch Lamb quickL gamed a lead, and maintained his advantage til! the finish * airns put >n a stroll- challenge a few yards from the post, but one of Cairns' CTew broke an oar, and this spoiled their chances.
