An open race for 14ft. one-design boats I ■was also held by the squadron on Saturday, the first prize being £o, the second £2, and the thud ±'l- This race was witnessed i by a large number oi yachting enthusiasts, j including the Governor-General, Lord Jelli- I coe. who followed the boats round the course | in the launch Marguerite. His Excellency had intended competing in the race in. hie I new 14-fcoter Iron Duke, but owing to the I 'imfa/vouiabie weather in the morning it was ! decided to postpone the launching of the j boat unt_il this morning. The competitors "were; —Edna, Betty. Idler, Shamrock, Kewpie, Ola ill., Meteor. and Silver j Lirk. Edna. crossed tho line first i and then came Betty, Idler, and j Shamrock. Kewpie and Silver Link | were very laU 1 ;n starting and took no ' proxninont part in the rac.-e. finally giving upin the ieart to the Resolution buoy. Idler went to the front, followed by Edna and Cla 111. Bounding the buoy the order was: "idler. Edns.. Meteor, Betty, Ola HI. and -, Shamrock. The run across to the Sandspit beacon aaw Idler well in front with Meteor ' holding second position. On the close haul •up to the top mark Idler had M> give place to Meteor which was sailing well in the light weather. Idler trouble with her mainsail, and was nass*-d by Shamrock, while Edna replaced Ola 111. At, the Resolution buoy Merteor was leading Shamrock by 1\ minutas, und when the Sandspit beacon was reached she had increased her lead by another 30 seconds. Ola 111 was the next boat round this mark and then came Idler, Edna-, and Betty. On the haul tip to the finishing mark, Idler regained third position, while I Ola TTT dropped back. SWEEPSTAKE RACE.

K sweepstake race for 5s a bos.t was sailed on Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the Victoria Cruising Club over a harbour course. Four boats entered, but only two faced the starter —Tamure II and Seas-nook—the latter winning easily. The finishing time* were: Seaspook, 4h. 51m.; Xajnure IL sh. 9m.
