MR, JOHN WATT
Mr. John Watt, who died rzec. itlv at Reefton. was well known in the Auckland district as an efficient and popular pel: •<- officer. While in charge at Helensville lie was promoted to the rank of sergeant, being transferred to Newton. From there he was appointed to tjie charge of the Rotorua district where he remained until ill-health compelled his retirement f«.m the force, Fcr a (time he condurtf-d businesses in various parts of the A'ick land Province, eventually *ettiing on the west coast of the South Island, mid with his family engaged in -farming •; Mawheraiti, near . Reefton. &,rn in Auckland in 1855, Mr, Watt served a« member .of the Armed Constabulary in ?h» Maori -War, for 15 years acting ap mounted orderly to Colonel Robert*. Ir hia young days he was a noted athlete *n.i in certain branches of sports had few peers. Mr. Watt leaves a widow ar»» „; family of two daughters and five pons. Mr. Geo. Watt. . railway atatioiunaster =t Mamaku, being one 'of the latter.
