REV. I. JOLLY RESIGNING
BAD HEALTH THE CAOSE. LONG REST NECESSARY. 33 YEARS IN THE MINISTRY. An announcement that he was sending his resignation to the Auckland Presbytery was made by the Rev. Isaac Jolly at the close of the morning service at St. Stephen's Church, Ponsonby, yesterday. The reason given by Mr. Jolly was that for about three years he had been suffering badly from neuritis. Having tried nearly everything that could be thought of, his medical advisers said the only thing left was a long rest and a change. At his time of life—for he was 68 years of age— he thought he would be making a mistake to take a holiday and then return to the church as the kirk session had asked him to do. He thought it would be a mistake both for himself and for the congregation, and therefore his resignation was going into the presbytery to-morrow. Mr. Jolly will celebrate his 69th birthday in February next. He has been 33 years in the ministry, and was, for six years prior to that, engaged in home mission work in Glasgow. He is a graduate of Glasgow University. He has been minister of St. Stephen's Church for 11 years.
