TURKISH TREATY REVISION.
ANGLO-FRENCH DISCUSSION GREECE MAY LOSE SMYRNA. ALEXANDRETTA FOR FRANCE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Router. PARIS, Dec. 9. The possibility of the modification of the Turkish Peace Treaty was indicated by a joint meeting of the Financial and Foreign Affairs Committee of the French Chamber of Deputies, at which the Prime Minister. M. Leygues, is reported to have declared in favour of such modification. M. Leygues expressed the conviction that a complete Anglo-French agreement on the Turkish question would be shortly reached on the basis of a modification of the treaty. M. Leygues added that' Smyrna, which was ceded to Greece under the Peace Treaty, must be returned to Turkey, with safeguards for the protection of minorities. Complete agreement with Britain would be concluded on the basis of modification of the Turkish Treatv on lines which would not clash with Moslem susceptibilities. If France were confined to the Western Mediterranean her status would be considerably reduced, hence she was demanding the Syrian zone and Alexandretta, which would be one of the largest ports of the Mediterranean in 30 years. France would not remain in Cilicia.
