TRAINING FOR NAVY.
♦ AUSTRALIA'S DIFFICULTY. COLLEGE MAY BE CLOSED. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Dec. 10. In view of the reduction of the personnel of the Australian Navy, and the consequent need of fewer officers, and also the necessity for retrenchment, the question of closing the Jervis Bay Naval College or. the adoption of a scheme to include the training of naval airmen and mercantile marine officers is under consideration. One suggestion is that arrangements for training New Zealand cadets at the college, which fell through owing to the war, be revived. The Sydney Morning Herald says New Zealand is building up its own naval reserve, and possibly negotiations will be entered on for training her officers at the college.
