MUNICIPAL HOUSING.

THE WELLINGTON SCHEME.

HIGH-PRICED DWELLINGS.

The Wellington City Count i!'s housing scheme is not proving productive of cheap dwellings. Three houses have just been completed, and are to be disposed of by ballot. Particulars of them are as i follows :— ! Sections—Six5 —Six rooms and convenience?, I £1775. Section B—Five rooms and conveniences £1720. Section 15Four rooms and conveniences, £1165. The Mayor, Mr. J. P. Lake. M.P., j stated that, the council had recast the designs to be followed in the erection or further houses, in an endeavour to cheapen the cost and provide dwellings more within the means of those whom it was most desirable should benefit' under the scheme. This type would be similar to the cheapest of the jot about to be balloted for. The 1 dwellings erected under the new design would be smaller than those on the upper portion of the section, and would therefore offer more inducement to those for whom the council was really obliged to cater.
