BOARDING HOUSE THEFTS? 4

FIJIAN SENT TO GAOL*. Three additional charges of theft veer® . preferred against George Whippy, a young Fijian, who came before Mr. J. W. Porn- , ton, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday for sentence on two charges of theft of clothing. The articles concerned in the three charges included £2 in moneys two chains and pendants, an alarm clock, and a suit of clothing, of a total value of £18 2s 6d. Accused admitted all the offences except the theft of the money. The articles had been stolen from various

boarding house a at which accused had stayed. They had been sold to secondhand dealers. When interviewed by Detective Sullivan accused admitted the theft of the articles, End stated whera they had been sold. The majority had been recovered. On & charge of having stolen a suit of clothes and & shirt, valued at £8 Bs, accused was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, to be followed by not more than 12 mouths' reformative treatment. On the other charges he was convicted and discharged. "Ho was ordered to make restitution to the amountof £6 18s.

ALLEGED ENTERING AND THEFT. A charge of breaking and entering the Silverton Electric Company's warehouse in Gore Street and stealing electrical appliances and fittings, valued at £59, was preferred against two electricians, Horace Davis (Mr. Moody) and Arthur Ernest Coliam. On the application of ChiefDetective McMahon accused were remanded till Monday, bail being allowed. Tho goods ere discovered to be missing last Monday morning, and it was found that the premises had been entered by a front door. The door had been secured by a padlock, the top of which had been cut off with a hack saw. Apparently the goods had been taken down from the second floor in the lift. As a result of investigations conducted by DetectiveSergeant Hammond and Detective Meiklejohn, the two men, Davis and Coham. who are in business in Mount Eden Road, were arrested on Wednesday.
