WATER SUPPLY SUSPECT.
NEED FOR PRECAUTIONS.
HEALTH OFFICER'S WARNING.
Precautionary measures in the use of water for domestic purposes in certain portions of the city are recommended in the following statement issued last evening by the district health officer, Dr. T. J. Hughes:
"Investigations are being carried out by the Health Department of water supplied to certain parts of the city, and in view of the unsatisfactory condition disclosed, persons residing in the central portion of the city proper, in the Freeman's Bay, Ponsonby, and Heme Baydistricts, are strongly advised to boil all water before such is used for domestic purposes, cleansing of teeth, and washing of vegetables eaten in the uncooked condition, until further notice. "In the meantime the use of the.contaminated source of such water has been discontinued, and further investigations are being made by the department. While not wishing unnecessarily to alarm the public, in view of the results of the investigations such precautionary measures are. recommended for probably a short period."
