MR. ALEXANDER W. HOGG.

The death occurred this aftcriu:, a ho.n heart failure «f Mr. Alexander \Vi.ou;i Hogg, for 21 years representative of Masterton in Parliament, and for a period Minister for Public Works in the Ward Ministry. The- deceased was 7 o years of age, and had been ailing for some time. He leaves a widow who tOui daughters.

The late Mr. A. \V. Hogg represented Musterton in Parliament from ld9Q uuut his defeat by Mr. G. R. Sykes at the elections of, 1811 by 581 votes. He majority had previously ranged from 18 in 1890 to 1248 iu 1908. Fiom Jar.uarv to June, 1909, Mr. Hogg was a memlx. of the Ward Cabinet as Minister tor Labour. Customs, and Public Works. After a free expression of hie views on the subject of paper-money and other matters in a famous speech in the House on June 12. 1909. he resigned from tt>* Ministry, of which he subsequently became an outspoken critic. Mr. Hogg was born in Glasgow in 1845. After a spfl! on the Victorian goldiields lie came to New Zealand in_ 1877, 'managing and editing the Dunedin Age for tome year*, and afterwards conducting papers n Timaru and Ashburton. He was editor and part-proprietor of the Masterton Star from 1881 to 1892, and •served on most of the many local bodies in the Wellington and Waii-arapa districts. Of recent fa r* the deceased had been in indifferent health.

Helensville. recently, in her 97th year, arrived in Aucl land by the ship Matilda Watoube<-k. in 1862, with her husband. Mr. NT h'atu Little, and a family of sis. They proceeded to Paparoa, where they for a number of years, and removed to Helensvillo about 35 years apo. Mrp. Little leaves a surviving family of four daughters—Mrs. E. Little, of ' Parakei: Mrs. .James McLeod, of Parkhurst; Mrs S. H. Booker, of WhitfOrd; an f j Mrs. Isaac McLeod, of Heleneviile. She also leaves 24 grandchildren and 4! greit grandchildren.
