THE HARBOUR BOARD.

TAURANGA. "Wednesday. At a meeting of the executive committer of the Tauranga Harbour Board the question of improved road communication between Tauranga and Rotorua was discussed, and the following motion was unanimously carried:—"That this board, invites delegates from the following local bodies to attend a conference to be held in the Coronation Hall, Tau--1 ranga, on December 10 to discuss the best means of securing a' good metalled road between Tauranga and Rctyua: TauraJiga _ County XJouncil, Tauranga Borough Council, Rotorua County Council. Te Puke Town Board, Rotorua "Chamber of Commerce, Whakatane "County Council, and also the Government agent at Rotorua and the Public Works Department. The Tauranga Harbour Board will also be represented at the. conference. It was also decided that the secretary of the board write to Messrs. Blair, Mason, Lee, and Owen .intimating that the board is of opinion that the work of dredging Steifci channel should bo completed at the earliest possible opportunity, and that the engineers be requested to advise the board as to the best means of carrying out the work; also to furnish an estimate of the probable cost, as the board is anxious to make the necessary financial arrangements for this particular work. Ife -was agreed to approach the Minister for Finance with a request for a loan of £125,000 for the purpose of effecting improvements to the' harbour. The secretary was authorised to advertise an addition to the by-laws of the board providing for a landing and embarkation tee of Is per head on all Das senders landing or embarking over th» board's wharf from or to any port outside the harbour district.
