EVELYN FIRTH HOME.
THE OFFICIAL OPENING.
CEREMONY NEXT WEDNESDAY
The joint committee of the British Red Cross and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem met yesterday for the purpose of electing officers and making arrangements for the official opening of the Evelyn Firth Home at Point Resolution, Parnell. The home is to accommodate soldiers who are suffering from chronic -war disabilities, and it wiil be officially opened by the Minister for Defence. Sir Robert Heaton Rhodes, next Wednesday. So far, 19 soldiers are accommodated in the building, and the ladies of the* committee welcomed them at a dinner last week.
The following officers were appointed : — Chairman, Mr. J. H. Gunson; vice-chair-man, Hon. Geo. Fowlds; hon. secretary, Mr. G. H. Fleming; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. R. Elder ; representative on the New Zealand Executive, Mr. H. D. Robertson ; management committee. MeSdames J. R. Macfarlane, L. Benjamin, and C. Smith, Hon. Geo. Fowlds, and Messrs. J. H. Gunson, C. J. Tunks W. Spragg F. J. Hutchinson and G. H. Fleming. A communication was received from the Red Cross Commissioner in London giving further information for the benefit of New Zealand people who may wish to visit the graves of men who died in France. This information is available at the office of the committee, Brunswick Buildings.
