POPULAR POLICE OFFICER.
A presentation was made to Senior. '* Sergeant John MoNamara by members of . *!• the Auckland police force last evening, on H the eve of his departure for Wellington :if to again take charge of the police train- m ing depot, which has been reopened 'M there. There was a good attendance of all ranks. Eulogistic references were made '' r .' to Sergeant McNamara's capacity -for jV; hard work, his ability, and the high»: : standard of efficiency he had maintained in the force. Particular inference was * ..-• made to the assistance he had given privately to constables seeking to acquire knowledge to help them in their calling. '■■- The presentation comprised a travelling caae, a rug, and a pen and wallet. Mr. '?';' McNamara, who leaves for Wellington to- "•'": morrow evening, had charge of the depot when the war broke out. There being then no recruits for the force he was transferred to Auckland, where he has -~ been stationed for about three years, and ? where he is a very popular officer.
