WORK OF REPATRIATION.
ACTIVITIES OF THE BOARD.; The Auckland District Repatriation Board met on Thursday, the chairman, Mr. A. W. Gillies, presiding. Applications for loans for businesses totalled 51, three being granted, 30 recommended, 10 not recommended, five held over for fuller particulars, and three withdrawn. There were 53 applications for loans for furniture, 49 being granted,' one refused, and three held over. The employment officer's report stated that 54 men were on the register at the beginning of the week and 29 further applications were received, making a total of 83. Of this number 25 men were placed in employment and 16 who had not reported for a month were deemed to be in employment, leaving 42 remaining on the register. The vocational training officer reported that three men had been granted the- retained portion of subsidy, six . granted loans for tools of trade, seven granted books and fees while studying tt colleges and schools, and six granted sustenance ■while training at . technical schools. Fourteen trainees bad been placed in workshops and factories under the Department's subsidised wages 6cheme.
