SNOW IN CANTERBURY.
HEAVY FALL REPORTED. | [BY (TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] CHEISTCHURCH, Friday. Last night snow fell heavily on the higher levels in Canterbury. At Cheviot tho fall was six inches. The Peninsula Hills are covered with snow. TE KUITTS EXPERIENCE. HEAVTEST GALE FOR TEN YEARS. [BY. TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] TE KUITI, Friday. Tho heaviest gale experienced for the past ten years swept over the King Country on Thursday night. Tie wind reached a tremendous speed, and whenever it lulled rain came down in torrents. In Te Kuiti a large plate-glass window in a shop was blown in, and that was the chief item of damage. The gale lessened towards morning, but all day strong gusts have been passing over, and to-night the outlook is not good. Telephonic and telegraphic communications were cut off north of OtJrohanga, but tho Main Trunk wires to the southward were working. The lines connecting Auckland and New Plymouth were down, apparently between Mahoenui and Awakino.
