TBI XttEGBAPH.—I'BESS ASSOCIATION'.] NAPIEB, Sunday. i The death occurred suddenly this mornin", while in his bath, of Mr. Alfred Luther Beattie, at one time chief mechanical engineer for the New Zealand Railways, The deceased, who was a member of the Hawke's Bay, Northern (Auckland;, Wellington, and Dunedin clubs, arranged the tour of New Zealand of the Duke of York, now King George. He was a mem ber of various local bodies and Justire of the Peace.

MASTEETON, Siiadw. Mr. Frederick George Moore, for 37 years clerk to the/ Masterton County Council, died early this morning from heart failure, at the age of 76 year?. The deceased, who was born in India, came to ( New Zealand in 1863, and was in the -•'■ Native Department with his brother-in-law (the late Sir John Gorst), at Te Awamutu. He was afterwards on the staff of Sir George Grey, when the latter was Governor of New Zealand. He purchased an interest in the Glenburn Estate, in the Wfiirarapa, but sold out and came « to reside in Masterton. In his younger days the deceased was a keen cricketer and musician. He was recognised as one of the most efficient county clerks in New Zealand.

A colonist of 43 years, Mrs. James Strachan. died .at Westport on Friday morning, in her 84th year. The deceased, whose late husband was in partnership with the lato Mr. Petrie, formerly owned ■shipping yards in Montrose, Scotland, with sailing vessels that tradeil to Continental and American ports. She arrived in New Zealand by the ship James Niecil Fleming in 1877.

The late Mrs. F. G. Ewington was for years connected with the Maori G'rls' school, St. Mary's Women's' Home, Girls' Friendly society, Patriotic Lciague, Devonport Convalescent Home, Mothers' Union, Order of the Good Shepherd, the committee for entertaining wldiers of Narrow Neck in Holy Trinity Hall, and was one of the original helpers of Lord Ranfurly to start the Veterans' Home.
